Crush shows
Font design has gone through a transformation with the reintroduction of the movement in adornment and embellishment, as this book cover design by Crush shows.
Decorative fonts and Art Nouveau-influenced flora and colour palettes led the visual aesthetic for Freakshw, While darker 1970s glamour-style mouth icons inspiraed the direction of other album sleeves for DJ Krafty Kuts, such as Tell Me How You Feel
Crush has been involved in music related grahpics since the company began. For the most recent in the Krafty Kuts series, put out by Supercharged Record, the brief was simple. Carl Rush takes up the story: "'Fun-loving funk to outrageous bassline breaks' was how the lates Krafty album was described to us," he states. "The ouverall carnival vibe for the sleeves was influenced by his music and the album title, Freakshow." The set of sleeves uses ornate illustraion, created in-house, in a fresh upbeat way, yet manages to capture a unique darkness and spirit.
Crush likes to take an open-minded aproach when it comes to each new project. "We treat every project on its own merit," Rush states, "so sometimes we get our hands dirty and sometimes we are staring at the screen - it all depends on the job and what we think is the best outcome."
